Cassidian, the defence and security division of EADS, has introduced a new security radar into the market for the wide-area protection of sensitive industrial or military installations. As part of Cassidian's SPEXER security radar family, the new SPEXER 1000 has been launched during the Milipol exhibition in Paris. "Our new radar is the first operational security radar using the latest digital beam forming (DBF) technology, which enables the early detection even of single pedestrians in all weather conditions", explained Elmar Compans, Head of Cassidian Sensors & Electronic Warfare. "Thus, SPEXER 1000 gives police or security forces additional reaction time in order to deal with illegal intruders." SPEXER 1000 is optimized for surveillance of critical infrastructure such as oil fields, power plants, harbors, airports or military camps. With an instrumented range from 0.1 to 18 km and an extremely high update rate it is able to detect suspicious movements on the ground, in the air or over sea at a very early stage. This is in particular true for very small and slowly moving objects that are reliably detected as SPEXER 1000 exploits high doppler resolution. A specific version for border surveillance, SPEXER 2000, is under production for a huge border surveillance system in the Middle East; a military version has been developed for the German Army.
