HID Global has introduced new expansions to it’s radio frequency identification (RFID) solutions portfolio, opening new market opportunities across a variety of asset tracking applications. The company’s latest additions to its family of RFID technology products meet the changing requirements for a broad spectrum of industries, including logistics; automation and manufacturing; medical and health care; returnable transport items; and waste management. “This is an exciting time for the RFID industry,” said Richard Aufreiter, director of product management for Identification Technologies of HID. “Over the long term, possibilities for RFID applications are as countless as the potential combinations of the myriad integrated chips, antennas, and housing materials at our disposal. HID Global engineers are helping push the envelope through the development of innovative tagging solutions and design components that deliver unprecedented performance with smaller form factors, expanded memory storage, extended read ranges and optimized resistance to harsh conditions.”
The new transponders provide customers with a set of solutions that meet today’s asset tracking requirements. Recent RFID tag innovations from HID include The InLine Tag Ultra (Picture), a general-purpose UHF tag employing a patented HID Global 3D antenna that enables read ranges of up to a 26 ft (8 m) with no line-of-sight, substantially improving data collection speed and accuracy for logistics applications. The SlimFex Tag is made of a flexible, thermoplastic elastomer (TPE) housing enabling secure mounting of tags on contoured or irregular surfaces, while maintaining excellent RFID performance characteristics, even under harsh conditions. The IronTag has originally been developed for tracking aircraft parts. This tag can be attached to metal objects and withstands temperatures to 356° F (180° C), making it ideal for tagging tools, metal components, factory machinery and heavy equipment.
With fast data rate communication and a variety of housings to suit different environmental requirements, the expanded portfolio of HID Global tags underscores the ability for RFID technology to be implemented in ever-wider applications, vastly improving the speed and accuracy of logistics and asset tracking around the world. www.hidglobal.com
