RIMI NABDA Ltd. is one of the main central monitoring stations located in the capital city of the Slovak Republic in Bratislava. Established in 2001, RIMI-NABDA is a family owned alarm systems distribution and installation company in a community of about 500,000 people in the city of Bratislava. RIMI NABDA has distributed products manufactured by many companies over the years, including Honeywell, C&K, Inc., Sentrol, Optex and most recently, AES Corporation. Alexander Karsay is the Managing Director and owner and has worked in the industry since 1991 when he participated in the installation of the very first wireless central station in the Slovak Republic. The Challenge: When the EU became part of the union it was discovered that NATO uses the same frequency as the current 1-way system. Under government direction, Mr. Karsay was instructed to change frequencies. This would mean either investing in new radios and keeping his old system or buying a new system altogether. Either choice would require a considerable investment. The unreliability of his current 1-way system and the cost involved in replacing the old radios is what led Alexander to consider other alternatives. “We have been using a receiver manufactured by a company in Israel who stopped supporting and developing their product”, said Mr. Karsay. With 2 years to change out 900 – 1,000 radios, Alexander Karsay began to shop around and weight his options. Mr. Karsay was first introduced to AES in 2003 and he was immediately intrigued by the reliability offered by the 2-way mesh communication system together with the opportunity to own his own system with no monthly fees involved. He did not purchase the AES-IntelliNet system at that time, opting to use what he had learned about the AES system to evaluate others. He looked everywhere to compare this system to other similar systems. “Since 2003, I looked for another system like AES, but did not find any. I collected information about other systems for comparison and found them all lacking. For example, I compared to Radionic’s SAFECOM and found the cost for the quality of service I needed was too high and the system was too complicated for users.” Mr. Karsay said. The Options: Armed with the criteria set by the MultiNet system he discovered through AES in 2003, Alexander set off to find a similar product and get the best deal possible. “I compared 1 and 2 way systems. Only a few companies offered 2-way systems, but all their networks needed more translators which would significantly increase the costs of operation. We would need to build sites for antennas to increase distance from the central station. I found that 1-way systems were cheaper, but the cost for long-time operation would eat up any monies saved. Since I had already been using a 1-way system, I knew they were not capable of the reliability of a 2-way system anyway”, Mr. Karsay explains. Case Study During this 2 year period, Alexander also tested GPRS technology and again, the benefit for using AES was greater. The Solution: By 2005 when Alexander Karsay was reintroduced to the MultiNet system during the IFSEC tradeshow in Birmingham, his mind was made up. He was sold. “After 2 years of research, and testing many different systems, I kept coming back to the AES solution. During this time, I tried to find a reliable 2-way mesh alarm communications system that could compare to AES, but did not find any,” he confessed. RIMI NABDA bought and installed its first AES system in late 2006 to test it. Alexander is seeing the difference. “AES technicians worked with us remotely on the installation, which turned out to be fairly simple even under those circumstances. After just the first test, I knew immediately that we made the right choice and began using this system with new subscribers as early as January, 2007. We have not looked back since,” said Mr. Karsay. Mark Brandstein, COO for AES-IntelliNet is pleased with Alexander’s decision. “RIMINABDA represents the type of customer that is attracted to our advanced mesh technology. It speaks volumes that after trying and using other radio technologies, Mr. Karsay chose the AES MultiNet solution for his company’s future requirements over inferior GSM, PSTN or tower based options. It is clear that other security monitoring companies will be following this example to also benefit from the only real solution, AES MultiNet. It really does offer one-of-a-kind reliability and unparalleled cost savings.” [
