A lot of health insurers engaged PAV for the production of the German electronic health card (eGK). The orders are for the optical and electronic personalisation of smart cards with the patient and health insurers data. Since August 2011, PAV produces the cards and delivers them to the insured persons. Until the end of this year every tenth insured person in Germany should be equipped with the replacement for the traditional health insurance card. The eGK contains information in a secure microchip, certified by the BSI (German Federal Office for Information Security): a photo of the insured person and basic patient data such as name and address as well as insurance details. From the start the photo will save the patient against card malpractice. In further expansion stages it will be possible to collect more information like emergency data – information about former illnesses or allergies – and advices to patient´s provisions by request of the patient.
