Watchdata Technologies, a recognized pioneer in providing innovative digital security solutions, is supplying the world's first dual currency smart card for use across the international borders of Singapore and the Chinese province of Guangdong, a breakthrough in technology. The innovative smart card was unveiled by EZ-Link Pte Ltd and Guangdong Lingnan Pass at the fifth Singapore-Guangdong Collaboration Council (SGCC) meeting in Guangzhou on August 21. The SINO Visitor Pass, developed jointly with Guangdong Lingnan Pass and EZ-Link, will be issued by both companies in Singapore and Guangdong and will carry two currencies — the Singapore dollar and Chinese renminbi (RMB) — which can be used at all points that accept either the ez-link card or Lingnan Pass. “Last year, we received 266,000 Guangdong tourists; this is about 15 per cent of total Chinese visitors to Singapore. In the same year, 12 Guangdong companies with a combined investment of US$240 million (S$306.4 million) set up presence here. We are pleased with these positive developments and hope to do more with Guangdong,” said Singapore Transport Minister Lui Tuck Yew. In the second phase of development additional functions will be progressively added after such as inter-city top-up features and the integration of e-ticketing for a wider range of items including goods, services and tickets of tourist attractions."This means that in the future, visitors can also gain access to tourist attractions, food & beverage, retail deals and other lifestyle applications in both countries with this pass," said EZ-Link's CEO Nicholas Lee, in the statement. This is a huge leap for the smart card industry and Watchdata is proud to be the provider of this solution. “Watchdata’s transport electronic ticketing market has maintained the absolute leading position. As of today, more than 50 million units of the worldwide traffic smart cards have been issued,” said Watchdata smart card division vice president, Lin Lifeng. “We look forward to continuing to provide transit roaming solutions to support traffic between the two countries in their early realization of the 'one card in hand, cross-border travel’ digital life.”
