ZVEI - Working together for pan-european industry standards Print E-mail
Friday, 27 May 2011 00:00
On the annual press conference of the german professional association for security (Fachverband Sicherheit) of the ZVEI (Central Associationof the German Electrical and Electronics Industry) on May 26th, Gert van Iperen, CEO of the association for security, gave an overview over the current developments in the market and the cooperation throughout Europe for a common standardisation. As van Iperen staded, the German market for electrically and electronically security technology including installation and service has grown in 2010 according to provisional calculations by 2.65% to a volume of about 2.6 Billion Euro. Over 44% of the total amount came from the fire protection sector, roughly a quarter from assault and intruder alarm technology, about 14% from CCTV, 9% from access control and management systems and 8% from other security technologies.

Aside from the assault and intruder alarm systems, which were able to maintain their revenue of the previous year, all product categories grew between two 2 and 4%. For 2011, a further moderate market grow is expected in germany.

The German professional association for security has, in cooperation with the european umbrella association Euralarm, initiated a European standardisation project. A common set of rules shall assist companies in planning, projecting, installation and approval, als well as maintenance of security installations. All relevant sectors of security shall be covered by this planned umbrella standard. For the respective sectors, the minimum quality of services and the required competences of service providers shall be defined. The relevant european body has started it's work in April 2011 and is set to develope the standardisation project under German management

A further european topic is the principle of „One-Stop-Testing, One-Stop-Certification". "Still today, certifications of security products are not automatically recognized in all of Europe. This means high costs and a high expenditure of time for the manufacturers - this way, the „Time to market“ factor for a new product is unreasonably extended", as van Iperen explains.

To help out here, Certalarm - respectively the non-profit organisation Certalarm A.I.S.B.L. (Association Internationale Sans But Lucratif) - provides a pan-european test and certification procedure. The procedure takes place in independent testing facilities and complies with the European standards EN54 for fire detection systems and EN5013x for assault and intruder alarm technology.
