VdS: All essentials on Perimeter Protection Print E-mail
Thursday, 20 March 2014 12:55

Optimal Security begins far before the doorstep: In its new “Security Manual on Perimeter Protection”, VdS has compiled all relevant information and numerous best cases on this subject for the very first time. Due to the increasing interdependence of processes, slightest interferences can cause considerable economic loss. If, for instance, small components are stolen from an outdoor storage area, this might paralyse an entire worldwide supply chain. Hence, the classical protection concepts for fences, walls, doors and windows alone are no longer adequate for many goods, open production facilities and sensitive infrastructures.

This is why VdS, Europe’s No. 1 institute for burglary prevention, has now issued its first “Security Manual on Perimeter Protection“ (VdS 3143)“. 90 pages provide explanations on the innovative multi-sector concept as well as special features of more than a dozen electronic surveillance systems including various structural and mechanical safeguards. A plethora of exemplary concepts as well as standards on system documentation, design, operation and maintenance are top off the manual.

“The core of the manual – which our experts developed in cooperation with insurance companies, the industry and the police – is a hazard and risk analysis compliant with ISO 31000”, explains Sebastian Brose, co-author and concept designer at VdS, Europe´s No 1 institute for corporate assurance. “In the field of perimeter protection, there is a wide range of risk scenarios and potential solutions. The strong journalistic presence and the encouraging approval during the presentation of the manual show how pressing this topic is. We are pleased that VdS is once again the innovative spearhead. The new compendium displays the kind of precision everyone is used to from our publications.“

VdS Guidelines 3456 for testing and approval of relevant products have already been published, and the institute is going to offer special seminars on the subject. You can download a free version of VdS 3143en at
